Practices of faith and menses

I asked my friend/language helper this afternoon about what she likes about Ramadan, especially the last 10 days and what they mean to her. She spoke about the multiplication of blessing and increase feeling of faith (or expression of faith) in the community. I then asked how a woman (or her) might feel if her period falls during these days. Her answer again went back to intention: if the woman is someone who normally prays and fasts regularly and would certainly be fasting those days if she were able, then that will be accounted to her as if she has fasted them. She’s still able to pray du’a (informal) prayers and (interestingly) read the Q’ran (I didn’t think to ask if she meant touching it also), so these will still be effective. She did feel any sense of missing out on potential blessing.
